Hi,
I've planed a stay in Riva from 7 Aug to 16 Aug.
Can I expect storng thermic in August (According stats August should be the best period? ) ?
What is the best place to get the morning & afternoon thermic ?

hi,
yes, you've chosen the best time of the year, if the
weather will be "standard"
you can expect strong north wind in the early morning
both in malcesine and pra (stronger and earlier in
malcesine), if you're lucky really strong wind (balě,
30/40 knts) that lasts all the day and can be taken on
southern beaches with bigger waves (Torri and
Toscolano) and not so strong southern wind in the
afternoon. best place, even if expensive, Hotel Pier,
otherwise Torbole could do.
best thing to do: ask, follow and respect the locals

Anyway, for the best Pelčr (the morning wind), you have to go to Prŕ de la fam (see the spots section on this site!)or to Malcesine.
Get up very very very early!!! 6.30/7 in the water!!!
For the Ora (afternoon wind..about from 13.30/14.30 to???)you can stay in Riva!
....or if you want just a little bit more wind....you have to go NEAR the Pičr Hotel.....here u will find only few wide strech of road, look for carefully! you have to left your rig very fast and then you must move your car and find a free parking somewhere.
Don't go to Pičr if u don't want pay more than 20€ for the only parking!

Regarding the best rule "ask, follow, and respect", 100% agree (I expect the same in some spots in France & Belgium, where I'm more local :-))
What is the reason of strongest conditions at Pra ? Special Venturi effect ?

it isn't stronger at pra, it's just "cuter" for us.
the wind comes and goes a bit later than malcesine, but
it's even a bit weaker (you'll use at least 1/2 square
meter more of sail) maybe chops are a little less
choppy... dunno really...
about locals, nothing to do with localism, just if you stay
after people who know well the lake, you'll maybe find
the right places at the righ time, that you'd never find by
yourself,
